Samson Broadside is a large man, Standing 8 feet tall and weighing a massive 290 pounds. His body is well toned, with dark-skin, with short military-style cut hair and a long, black beard. His eyes are black with dark rings around them, his body covered in a brown vest, black pants and black leather boots. Samson keeps his old Marine-jacket on him at all times as a reminder of his past, draping it over his shoulder with the word "Marine" ex-ed out with black paint on the back. This old jacket is as well-kept as possible, considering the circumstances, though its as well-weathered as he is. Samson as a long scar along the side of his face, running from just below his right eye to down at the tip of his chin, a sign of... simpler days. Samson wears a pair of black-tinted glasses over his eyes.

He was strong-willed with a firm sense of justice, looking out for those smaller and weaker than himself, even at his own personal detriment. He served the Marines faithfully for many years, earning the trust of the higher-ups with his efficiency and dedication to the common man. He's rugged, rough and isn't afraid to speak the truth, but is also attentive towards those in need. Whether its removing rubble from in front of someone's home or bringing food to hungry civilians, Broadside looks out for the common man.
One thing Broadside ISN'T, however, is merciful... which also got him far in his Marine career. Pirates that go around terrorizing towns are the last on his list to receive an easy knockout, the former Marine taking his time to REALLY DIG IN just what Justice meant to him. These scoundrels, after all, need to learn their lessons and he'd be damned on his honor as a Marine to let that lesson go unheeded. That being said, he's not the sort to mindlessly charge into a conflict. Broadside is something of a strategist, wanting to get his ducks in a row to ensure maximum punishment. Beit setting up traps beforehand or going in with a battle-plan, Broadside seeks to keep the odds in his favor as much as possible.

He sees the institution as one of corruption and thinly-veiled hypocrisy, caring only for the people insofar as they can pay their taxes. The soldiers he does his best to spare, knowing they are inundated with propaganda, but that doesn't mean he'll take it easy on them either!

He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but the memory of that day, those flames reflected in his shades... it still haunts him now. As he and his men sifted through the rubble, they found a small chest, one containing a devil-fruit! Upon bringing it back on board, the fruit was identified as the Bomu-Bomu no mi, a paramecia-type fruit which turned the one who ate it into living dynamite! This fruit was granted to Samson as a reward for his harrowing task, the then-young Samson eating it, thinking that this would allow him to forget what was done here today...
...And he was wrong.
Samson, only found, as he continued to grow in rank, that these acts would become more and more frequent, the atrocities committed by the Marines in search of easy, quick solutions. His own hands were stained in the ashes and blood of innocents, those he had signed up to save...

In the night, he stole a small escape-boat and left the life of the Marines, tears rolling down his cheeks for both those he had slain... and the life he was now leaving behind.
