Overall
Karine is a short woman with a chubby frame - wide hips, a sizable chest and a pudgy stomach, though despite her appearances much of her is built of strong, solid muscle - particularly in her arms and legs. Her skin is a brown, tan colour, though a notable feature of her skin are discoloured stripes that appear across the bridge of her nose, her arms, her legs and her back. These stripes are a darker brown than the rest of her.
Like any Fishwoman, of course, Karine also possesses numerous fish-like qualities - a set of sharpened teeth, a large dorsal fin protruding from her back, several smaller fins on her elbows and calves as well as webbed hands. Her eyes are sharp and focused, with dark brown irises. Her hair is black, short and unkempt.
In terms of clothing, Karine mostly wears a cream-white shirt, an orange sash around her waist, black shorts that reach down to the knee and a blue Captain's coat with a golden trim.

Overall
Many would describe Karine as a hedonistic woman; often caught up in pursuing her pleasures, Karine has no qualms with indulging herself in any of her pastimes, from drinking to eating to swimming to fighting. As a result, Karine is something of a laid-back thrill-seeker. Although she's more than willing to throw herself into all kinds of danger for the sake of an adrenaline rush, she's also the kind of person to readily embrace the idea of sitting down and chilling with someone she likes and just hanging around for hours. She can be blunt, but never intentionally mean - if anything, she's an incredibly friendly person who simply wants to have fun and hang around like-minded people.
Of course, this is only one aspect of Karine's character. Beneath the hedonism and thrill-seeking is a woman who is incredibly compassionate. She cares greatly for the people around her and is willing to help out almost anyone who asks for her aid. That's not to say that she isn't skeptical - she makes certain to know exactly what she's stepping into first - but she's more than willing to help out those who can't help themselves. And when it comes to her friends, Karine is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to support and aid them. Even if it means throwing her life away, she's not afraid to do anything for her friends.
But of course, this compassion for others is fueled by a burning hot sense of morality. Karine is not compassionate in spite of her anger - she is compassionate because of it. She sees a world around her where the most heinous criminals are committing atrocity after atrocity while those who are tasked with taking them down are mired in corruption. There is not a day that goes by where Karine is not furious with the state of the world she lives in, but Karine is determined to make a change. She intends to become Pirate Queen and take down all those who would harm the weak. She is willing to accomplish this goal no matter what.
Of course, it must also be said that Karine is a woman mired in guilt. She made some bad choices and ended up getting someone she loved killed. To this day she harbors incredible guilt over her role in her love's death and seeks desperately to atone for her "sin" however she can. If she must martyr herself to the cause of eliminating evil in order to be cleansed of that "sin", it is a sacrifice she will gladly make.

Overall
Long before Karine was born, her parents as well as her grandmother left their ancestral home of Fishman Island and decided to travel up to the surface, where they eventually settled on the island of Las Camp - an island in West Blue where the World Government had previously set aside as a plot of land available for the people of Fishman Island to populate many years previous. It was here that her parents settled down with her grandmother and set up their own modest business as fishers. Day in and day out they would go out into the ocean and catch fish to sell off for a profit. After several years of work, they managed to find a sense of stability as they established a place for themselves within the market. It was shortly after this that Karine herself was finally born.
While Karine was young she spent most of her time in the care of her grandmother, Charlotte. Her grandmother - a trained expert in Fishman Karate - took to teaching the young child the basics of the art, thinking that Karine would enjoy it just as she did in her youth. Just as she thought, Karine took to it quickly and soon they established a sort of schedule to her life - Karine would wake up every morning, have breakfast, train until her parents returned home and then sit down at the table to eat her dinner. At such a young age, Karine's life seemed all set out for her. Yet all the same, as much as she enjoyed training with her grandmother and sitting down to dinner with her parents, her life still felt oddly... Lacking. Karine may have still been young, but she still felt like she didn't have any sense of direction to her life. She had plenty of fun, but it felt devoid of meaning. At least, up until she met Penny.
One day, while Karine was walking around town, she stumbled upon a young Human woman being harassed by a bunch of the local lads. Already somewhat of a feared name around town for her roughness with the other boys, Karine jumped in and scared off the would-be harassers. After comforting the girl, she learned that she was the daughter of a notable Marine Captain who lived on the island and that she went by the name of Penelope - or "Penny" for short. The two quickly seemed to connect to one another, becoming fast friends as they started hanging out and traversing every inch of Las Camp.
Penny herself was a shy young woman who constantly seemed to second-guess herself. It was often that Karine would drag her around the island, getting her to take part in all sorts of things from swimming in the local lake to playing pranks on the local lads (Although Karine always seemed to get the blame exclusively). But sometimes they would sit back and simply watch the stars together and Penny would talk to her about her dreams of becoming a Marine Captain just like her father. Despite Penny's lack of confidence in herself, Karine always admired her dedication and ambition. Karine always felt like she was just drifting along for the ride, but Penny was dedicated to the idea of charting her own course. Inspired by her, Karine decided to join Penny in becoming a Marine, believing that it would one day help her figure out what she wanted to do.
And so, when the two girls reached the age of 16 they shipped off for the Marines' 80th Branch to enlist and train to be proud Marines. For the next year the two trained hard to live up to the standards of the Marines. Karine took to the physical tests with ease - already a skilled fighter thanks to her grandmother's tutelage. Penny, on the other hand, found herself struggling to keep up at every step of the way. Although by the end of the year both had accomplished their training, Penny seemed to get by by the skin of her teeth. Nevertheless, both Karine and Penny found themselves being taken aboard the ship of Marine Captain Lloyd.
Marine Captain Lloyd was an interesting man, if nothing else. He never seemed to be able to sit still for more than a moment at a time. He always seemed to be distracted by every little thing, but to the Marines under him, he was a kind and caring man who encouraged and supported them every bit as much as they supported him. Under Captain Lloyd, Karine and Penny sailed all across the West Blue. Through traversing the West Blue under his command, Karine began to find herself becoming interested in seeing the world. She'd never stopped to think of just how vast a place the world she lived in was, but now she wanted to sail around the world - including the Grand Line. But as Karine soaked in the marvels of the world around her, Penny continued to languish under the weight of her own insecurity.
It was around this point that Karine and Penny's relationship began to strain. Penny was growing jealous of Karine's continued successes as a Marine while she continued to trail behind, feeling like she was only barely keeping up. Little by little, Penny began to distance herself from Karine, hoping that if she did so, she would stop feeling so terrible about her own progress. But such an action served to only make Karine feel like she'd done something to push Penny away. The two struggled to communicate with one another about their problems until eventually they had a large argument. The two seemed to go out of their way to avoid one another afterwards, though both felt horrible about what had transpired. That was when the two were suddenly called away on duty.
Pirates had launched an attack on a small town in West Blue. Captain Lloyd's ship was the closest ship to the town and so Karine and Penny both accompanied the rest of the crew as reinforcements. As soon as they landed, however, it became clear that the town was like a warzone. The Pirates and Marines fought desperately against one another, with Captain Lloyd taking on their Captain. Karine and Penny both were tasked with evacuating some of the villagers from the battlefield when suddenly, Karine was struck in the leg by a stray bullet. Injured badly, Karine struggled to keep herself on her feet while defending against the Pirates. That was when Penny opted to swap out with Karine, telling her to aid the evacuation while she held off the Pirates. Karine objected at first, but eventually relented. As Karine led the villagers to safety, Penny managed to successfully fight off the Pirates until their crew decided to retreat.
Following the battle, Karine went in for medical treatment, only to run into Penny again. The two took a few moments to sit down and apologize to one another for their falling out. Both quickly forgave the other and the two began their relationship anew right from where they had left off. For the next few years the two worked together as an inseparable team, conquering all sorts of challenges together. It seemed like nothing could stop them. But all good things had to come to an end as shortly after Karine's twentieth birthday, their mentor - Captain Lloyd - was found dead. Worse still, the prime suspect in the murder was none other than Penny herself.
Despite both Karine and Penny's insistence that she was innocent, evidence had been planted against her pointing to her as the murderer. The two fought desperately in court to prove Penny's innocence, but it mattered little. After a week of investigation, it was decided that Penny was guilty of treason and murder and she would be sent to Impel Down to serve her sentence. But Karine's loyalty was to Penny first and so, against all reason, she decided to break Penny out of her cell and escape away with her. And so the two raced across the island to escape the rest of the 80th Branch of the Marines. The two were careful not to kill anyone as they still saw them as allies. But even so they found themselves hunted down by every single man and woman present. Eventually the two managed to make their way to a boat, but it was at that time that the two sustained heavy gunfire. After managing to sail away into the ocean and escape the Marines, however, Karine discovered that her efforts were all for naught. Although Karine herself survived, Penny eventually passed away from blood loss within the small dinghy they'd run away in.
After giving Penny a burial at sea, Karine swam across the ocean with poorly-treated wounds until she passed out. When she awoke, she was sitting in a ship's brig with a collar around her neck. It was soon explained to her that she was now the slave of a pirate looking to become King of the Pirates - a man by the name of "Dreadful" Dalkey. The collar around her neck was a means of assuring her loyalty - if she were to rebel, it would detonate and blow open her throat. With nothing else left to do but still unable to let go of her own life, Karine began to toil away as the servant of an awful Pirate. She couldn't even bring herself to despise it - she felt empty following the death of her friend Penny. But as she served aboard the ship, she began to take notice of all the other slaves around her - fishermen and young teens who had been captured and forcibly enslaved. And Karine remembered Penny's devotion to justice. And all at once, Karine's rage revived a fire within her. Taking matters into her own hands, she orchestrated a plot to grab the keys to her collar off Dalkey and managed to organize a mutiny against their slavemaster. Karine herself took on the pirate and brutally killed him, but not before declaring that she would become Pirate Queen so that she could wipe the seas clean of men like Dalkey. And so, Karine disbanded Dalkey's Pirates, letting the slaves go free.
Since then, Karine has wandered the seas in search of her own crew, seeking to bring about Justice on a bloody sea and find whomever was responsible for framing Penny so that she could avenge her herself.

Special Abilities
Fishperson Physiology
As a Fishwoman, Karine already possesses incredible physical strength on land compared to ordinary Humans, such that her regular attacks possess the same level of strength as the average Rookie-level technique. However, when submerged in the water her physical strength, speed and durability are all magnified, allowing her to let loose with every last drop of power that she has. Her strength becomes such that her regular Rookie techniques become as strong as anyone else's Intermediate techniques.
Shark Teeth
Befitting a Tiger Shark Fishwoman, Karine possesses a set of razor-sharp teeth with incredible biting power, enabling her to bite her way through surfaces ordinary humans wouldn't be able to break through sheer jaw strength alone, such as wood. But the real advantage to her teeth is their ability to grow back. Whether Karine chooses to rip a set of her own teeth out or whether they're broken by someone else's force, Karine can regrow a new set quickly without any cause for worry.
Navigational Skills
As a former Marine, Karine was trained in the ways of navigation. Karine knows her way around leading a ship across the Blue Seas. Taught how to follow sea charts and maps as well as how to chart her own, Karine has a great knowledge of navigation that has aided her in her travels greatly.
