[googlefont=Open+Sans]he first time Red bit into his devil fruit he felt a sense of knowing that was hard to describe. It was much akin to knowing how to use a word but not knowing the definition of it or how to explain the use of the word to someone else. However, he could not delve into the feeling as deeply as he wished to, because of this he needed more training to fully understand and utilize his abilities.
This was the reason he was currently awake in the middle of the night in a large clearing in some nearby woods. The clearing had not been there when he got there but his first transformation made sure that any trees within striking distance were knocked to the ground. Using his sharp talons to strip the trees, being a carpenter made it so that he never wanted to waste wood. This made the clearing a perfect spot to train and he would have to remember where it was for his future training endeavors while on this island.
He planned his training carefully as he still did not have full control and still tended to freak out whenever he felt the warmth of the fire within him. So his first step in training would be to learn how to be comfortable in his dragon form because there was no way he would be able to effectively fight if he could not control his dragon form as well as he could control his human form. To this end, he had spent the last hour or so trying to build multiple things that he knew how to build as a human as fast and as effective as a dragon.
At first, he could only make the constructs relative to his size making huge walls and such and nowhere near as fast as he could when he was in his human form. He worked on being more dexterous trying to match his building speed as a human. Soon he was able to match his building speed and even begun to manage to build faster by using his tail as an extra limb. His next goal was to be able to work so deftly that he could create as fast as possible while managing to scale his constructs to that of regular human size.
This took much longer as his large size made it hard to work so deftly but he was determined to be able to still use his craft even while a dragon. This was mainly because he felt this was his natural form and how could he go around telling people that he was truly a dragon if he could not utilize his craft while in what was supposed to be his original form.
Eventually, he was able to create everything he was able to create in his human form while maintaining the speed of his building, and if he wanted to the human relative size. This was important to him as it would allow him to work on the ship while in his dragon form. This also meant that it would not be pointless to continue working on his carpentry fighting skills as they could be translated to his larger dragon form.
This was good as there were many ways to make devil fruit powers null and he wanted to still be able to fight with the best of them without his powers. By this time he felt as comfortable in his full dragon form as he did his human form. Transforming into his hybrid form he then went through the same routine but found that even though he was larger in the form his training with the dungeon dragon form had made the routine much easier to go through while in his hybrid form.
The next thing on his agenda was something that he had always wanted to try but wanted to wait until he got more control of his body first. Switching back to his dungeon dragon form, just for the sake of getting used to switching between forms on the fly he unfurled his wings and took to the skies. He found that it was a good idea for him to train to get used to his dragon body before taking flight as he almost fell from the sky several times being saved only by instinct that would not have been there had he not been completely comfortable in his dragon form.
It took several hours but he eventually got used to flying as he found out the more he stayed and switched into his dragon forms the faster he would pick up on the bodily functions. He began taking bigger risks, like diving and pulling up moments before hitting the water as well as barrel rolls and loop the loops. He also began flying as high as he could so he would know his limitations before transforming back into his human form gauging the distance then transforming back into a dragon in time to skim the water and pull away before crashing.
He did this training in both his dungeon dragon form as well as his hybrid form. Soon it was as if Red had his powers since he was born able to call on either form much easier and much faster while being able to complete any task in either of his forms. He was just starting to feel proud of himself when he got a nagging thought in his head that was more of a feeling than a thought.
It was the same kind of feeling that he got when he first ate the fruit. An annoying sense of knowing something that he did not know he knew because he had always known it and had never needed to describe it. Because of this it made it hard to figure out what it was but he assumed it had something to do with his fruit since that was the only time he had ever felt this feeling this strongly before.
He landed in his dungeon dragon form and layout in the clearing getting comfortable as he thought about the feeling he was having. The more he thought the more he entered a sort of meditative state allowing him to fully delve into his mind and find the root of the feeling. He could feel the way his energy was coursing through his body almost as if it were a second way of breathing. He could also feel the different wavelengths of energy required to turn into his different forms this was when he realized what he felt.
He began to play with the wavelengths trying to fit them to how he wanted them. As he did so his body started to shift. It was not painful but it was very uncomfortable much like the first time he had transformed after eating his fruit. His body elongated and his wings became more angled and aerodynamic. His whole body seemed more serpentine and slick and he could tell he unlocked a new form meant for speed.
However the new form did not come with the comfort of the other forms which meant that he had to go through the routine again to learn to use this form. He did not mind putting in the work as it seemed that the more he learned about the form the more would open up for him and he was interested to see what would come next.
He trained this form just as he trained the others. He found that it was easier now that he better understood his transformations though he doubted he would ever need to stop training he knew it would never be as hard as his first two forms. By the time he left the island he was sweating and tired but happy he had mastered a third form and the familiar feeling, he had told him that there was more to be learned.
